Our Story

George's restaurant started in Brookings in 1971 by Dimitrios Theodosopoulos. When Spiro and Panagiota Theodosopoulos arrived in Brookings in 1976, they started working at George's, and by 1980, Spiro bought the place. Spiro and Panagiota ran the restaurant together until Spiro's passing in 2016. With their hard work and dedication, they turned George's into a family-oriented establishment. Spiro was known for his kindness and generosity toward customers and employees, treating them as his own family.

George's eclectic mix of Greek and traditional dishes has become a local favorite. The pizza window, a Brookings tradition, was born when Spiro started selling slices to late-night bar-goers. To this day, pizza by the slice is an iconic Brookings staple that draws in locals and college students alike.

Most recently, Georges was bought by Jim and Janice Minder and they are determined to keep the authenticity that makes George's a town favorite. With a fresh eye and plenty of new ideas, Jim and Janice Minder cannot wait to revitalize George's and create a space for families and students to eat incredible food and create lifelong memories!
